Fingerpainting on the iPhone

The cover of this week’s New Yorker magaine was created by finger painting on an iPhone. Artist Jorge Colombo used a $4.99 app called Brushes to finger paint the image in a single hour one evening while standing in New York’s Times Square.

A companion app, Brushes Viewer, created the video below, capturing each step in Colombo’s composition.

“It looks like I draw everything with supernatural assurance, and very fast,” said Colombo. In fact, he makes frequent use of the undo button. “[Brushes Viewer] gets rid of all the hesitations.”
