Google’s street view now shows Halifax – updated

Google’s Halifax street view feature is now online.

Halifax Street View -s

Getting there is a little tricky. Here’s how:

  1. Go to maps.google.ca
  2. Enter a specific address in the search box, and press enter. I entered “1726 Hollis St, Halifax, NS B3J 2Y3,” which is the address of Province House.
  3. A little red-orange teardrop enclosing the letter “A” should show up in the map. Click on it.
  4. In the small window that pops up, click on “street view.” Voila!

Play with the cursor and the arrows in the image. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it is pretty darned cool.

Let me know how far it ranges: Dartmouth? Bedford? Sydney? Kempt Head?

NB: Like certain other Google features, it does not seem to work with the greatest browser of them all, Opera.

[UPDATE] CC explains that if you grab “the little yellow fellow” and haul him around with your cursor, mapped streets turn blue. You’re on your own finding Little Yellow Fellow, but he’s there.

The street views extend surprisingly far beyond Peninsular Halifax — west to Chester, east to Elderbank, and north almost to the airport.
