A visit with Farmer Nunn

Contrarian is pleased to report, after a recent sojourn in Bayfield, Antigonish County, that Jim Nunn seems to be thriving in his newfound role as gentleman farmer.

It’s the best thing I ever did in my life. They send me a cheque every month, and I Don’t Do A Single Thing for them. I should have done it years ago.

We voiced admiration at the ripeness of the tomatoes on his windowsill.

You should see my burpless cucumbers. They’re huge.

But it was dark and cold, and we gave the garden tour a pass. As for politics, Nunn thinks Harper is poised to beat Ignatieff, who simply hasn’t connected with Canadians. “Beat him with a majority,” we asked?

I hope to God he doesnn’t, because Harper will change the country forever. This is Ignatieff’s one shot. I’m not sure why, but everyone seems to agree he can only lead the party through one election.

“Yes, but if Harper fails to get a majority, it will probably be his last trip to the polls, too, don’t you think?”

Probably so. And Layton’s too. Think about that. We could get rid of all three of them in one election. That would be $300 million well spent.
